History
George Gamow (1904-1968) was not only a brilliant theoretical physicist but also a gifted science communicator. His ability to explain complex concepts through engaging narratives and illustrations made science accessible to millions.
The George Gamow Award was established to honor his legacy and recognize contemporary scientists and communicators who embody his spirit of making science understandable and exciting for everyone.

Purpose
Established by RASA in memory of George Gamow, the award honors members of the Russian-speaking scientific diaspora for outstanding scientific contributions, international cooperation, and preservation of Russian cultural heritage.
Format & Eligibility
The award includes a diploma and a medal, and is open to academics in all fields regardless of country of residence.
Governance
The Committee is approved annually by the RASA Coordination Committee, usually has 5 or more members (odd number), includes at least two previous laureates, and submits recommendations for final approval.
Annual Awarding
The award is presented annually at the RASA Conference; two awardees are selected each year, and travel and stay are fully covered.
